In the landmark Supreme Court ruling of Roe v. Wade, the court established a woman's right to choose to have an abortion. In the majority opinion, Justice Harry Blackmun wrote that under the Fourteenth Amendment, a woman's right to privacy extended to her decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy.Since the Roe v. Wade ruling, candlelight vigils have been held in support of the decision. These vigils have become symbols of the struggle for women's rights and the right to choose. Candlelight vigils have taken place all over the world, and have become a powerful way for people to express their solidarity with the women's rights movement.
